To the Editor:

Methinks Alexander Lesyk doth protest too much about Nicole Duve’s involvement in his campaign.

Ms. Duve was seen wearing Mr. Lesyk’s campaign t-shirt while distributing his campaign literature at the Potsdam Summer Festival last week. There didn’t seem to be dozens of people sporting similar t-shirts or handing out campaign literature for Mr. Lesyk, but Ms. Duve was.

It’s nice that she supports him but one has to wonder if Ms. Duve will be back on the taxpayer-funded St. Lawrence County payroll should Mr. Lesyk be elected. After all, she is probably only a few years of service away from getting full retiree benefits under the New York State pension.

What a significant reward that would be for spending a few dozen hours campaigning for Mr. Lesyk!

Speaking of rewards, Mr. Lesyk is soon to be 65 years old. By law, Family Court Judges must retire at age 70.

Who appoints Mr. Lesyk’s replacement when he is forced to retire in five years? The Governor.

Do you suppose Ms. Duve, who seems likely to get a high level job in a potential Lesyk court, would be appointed to fill that vacancy?

The easy answer is yes, although St. Lawrence County voters have already rejected her for a county-wide office on two different occasions. Unfortunately for Ms. Duve, it seems local folks don’t want her back in the courthouse.

Mr. Lesyk needs to issue a statement saying he will not hire Ms. Duve to work in his office should he be elected and he will not support or lobby for her appointment as Family Court Judge when he rides off into the public retirement sunset.

The St. Lawrence County voters have a monumental decision to make:

Do we want a true public servant like Andrew Moses as our next Family Court Judge, or do we want more of the Lesyk/Duve show with their record in the District Attorney Office?

For me, I’ll stick with Andrew Moses. He is the obvious choice and has no baggage. He is not a good old boy. He is an experienced law guardian and advocate for children. He is dedicated and interested in acting in the best interests of the county, children and their families.

He will get my vote this September.
