OGDENSBURG – Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg has been awarded a $36,500 grant from the Rock Charitable Fund, administered by the Northern New York Community Foundation. The grant will support the restoration of the church's iconic transept stained glass window, which overlooks Claxton Hepburn Hospital.
The parish has been working to restore the historic Horwood stained glass windows, created in 1890. The restoration efforts have already resulted in the successful funding of 12 lower Horwood windows, with three additional windows safely removed for future restoration.
This project will ensure the preservation of these valuable windows while protecting them from future damage. Additionally, it will provide opportunities for skilled artisans, boost tourism, and enhance the city’s cultural landscape.
The restoration is expected to strengthen community ties, foster a deeper connection between parishioners and their heritage, and create a lasting legacy for future generations.
The parish also extends gratitude to City Historian Julie Madlin for her role in securing the grant, and to Robert J. Huot, Our Lady Ministry, and other supporters for their contributions to the restoration effort.
