Massena, Salmon River graduates earn athletic accolades for SUNY Potsdam lacrosse team

POTSDAM -- After a strong season, the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team earned five conference honors. Freshman Kimora Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) headlined a trio of Bears with three accolades. The goalkeeper was voted SUNYAC Goalie of the Year, Rookie of the Year and first team All-SUNYAC. Freshman attack Jayla Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y./Massena) claimed second team honors and senior midfielder Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) grabbed a spot on the third team.

Swamp posted a .446 save percentage with 129 saves and 12.90 goals-against average. She had a career-high 18 saves against Cortland on March 22. In her debut season, she already ranks sixth on the program's wins list with seven victories. In the SUNYAC, she ranked third in saves and second in save percentage. Swamp is the program's first goalie of the year and first team selection, as well as its second rookie of the year. 

Playing in all 15 games this season, Thompson recorded 49 goals, seventh best in the conference, while gathering 18 ground balls and 12 draw controls. She had a career-high six goals and eight points against Husson on March 9. 

Pierce was third on the team in scoring this season with 25 goals and 16 assists for a career-high 41 points. She also led the Bears with 55 draw controls and 42 ground balls, while also causing 18 turnovers. Pierce turned in a personal best six points (3g, 3a) against Morrisville on April 18. The midfielder recorded 85 points (65g, 20a), 129 ground balls, 80 caused turnovers and 183 draw controls throughout her career. She ranks third in caused turnovers, fifth in draw controls, ninth in ground balls, 18th in scoring, 16th in goals and 17th in assists. 

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Lindsey Pound, the Bears recorded an 7-8 overall record, tying the program's single-season wins mark. The Bears also started the season 5-0 for the first time ever.
