MASSENA – A graduating senior at Massena High School has been named the 2025 recipient of the Jeannette and Saul Rosenbaum Memorial Scholarship.

Owen Cyrus, son of Kris and Heather Cyrus of Bishop Avenue in Massena, will receive $500 toward his first year of college studies. He will matriculate this fall at Clarkson University, where he hopes to study aerospace engineering.

The scholarship, named in memory of two lifelong Massena residents, is designated annually for a graduating senior at Massena HS who has made a significant commitment to volunteer service.

Owen is being honored notably for his leadership work with the Youth Drug-Free Coalition and the Unity for Massena Youth Coalition. He also demonstrated commitment to volunteer leadership in an array of roles over his four years of high school. He has served as class president, vice president of the Student Council, sophomore class treasurer and varsity football captain. He ranks 8th in his graduating class of 199.

In a letter of recommendation, Massena Mayor Gregory Paquin said: “Owen Cyrus is the epitome of what we hope the young members of our school and community strive to become.”

The Rosenbaum scholarship, which is awarded annually, is funded by grandchildren of Saul and Jeannette Rosenbaum, whose two children, Ruth and Joel, graduated from Massena High School in the 1940s. Saul Rosenbaum owned and operated a men’s clothing store for many years on Main Street in Massena.
