GOUVERNEUR – Eleven area students recently completed a three-day MASH Camp at St. Lawrence Health’s Gouverneur Hospital, where they learned about several clinical areas of healthcare.
High school students from Alexandria Bay, Faith Fellowship Christian, Gouverneur, LaFargeville, Lisbon, Lowville Academy, Lyme and South Lewis central had an inside look at a number of service lines. Instruction was provided on Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, Infection Prevention, Lab/Morgue, Medical-Surgical and Surgical units, Nursing Education, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Radiology and Respiratory. They were further taught about wound stitching from Gouverneur Hospital Associate Medical Director Payam Hadian, MD; and and completed Basic Life Support/CPR training.
Participating students were given certificates of completion and Hospital identification badges, and received breakfast, lunch, snacks and ice cream from the Food & Nutrition Services team.
The camp was coordinated with the Fort Drum Regional Healthcare Planning Organization, which supplied t-shirts for the students.
St. Lawrence Health will be hosting its next MASH Camp from August 13-15 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
