POTSDAM -- Leonard D. "Pete" Gardner, 80, of Utica, formerly of Potsdam, passed away January 5, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY.
Leonard (Pete) was born April 7, 1944, the oldest of twelve children to the late Douglas A. and Agnes M. (Norman) Gardner.
He attended school in Potsdam and worked at the Quonset Restaurant before moving to Utica in 1966.
He worked for a nursing home and then for Faxton's Hospital and finally for Oneida County where he retired after 35 years.
A first marriage in 1967 ended in divorce.
He is survived by his girlfriend of 45 years, Carol Miglin, two brothers, Norman of Potsdam and Bruce (Pearl) of Fulton, NY, two sisters, Darlene (James) Besaw of Potsdam and Cheryl of Potsdam; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Victor, Richard, David, Ronald, and Jerry, and sisters, Annette and Patricia.
He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and loved to travel.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be announced in the spring.
