Several North Country students were recognized as Winning Attitude Award recipients handed out by JRECK Subs, in partnership with Fresh Start Franchising, Inc..
Now in its 22nd year, the initiative has expanded to include 11 additional schools, including local school districts, bringing the total to 26 high schools across the communities JRECK Subs serves.
Established by a group of local franchisees, the Winning Attitude Award recognizes graduating seniors who may not meet the traditional criteria for academic or athletic scholarships but who exemplify a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and resilience in the face of challenges. Recipients are selected by their schools and awarded a $500 scholarship, either as a single award or split between two deserving students.
Founded in 1967 by five Carthage Central School teachers, JRECK Subs has always valued education and community involvement. The Winning Attitude Award continues that legacy by shining a spotlight on students who make a difference in their schools and neighborhoods—not just through achievement, but through attitude. The scholarships will be presented at the school's graduation event.
Local recipients include Jo Bowen-Stevens from Canton Central School, Hannah Dafoe and Samuel Cox from Gouverneur High School, Darby McCarthy and Kyler Lippassaer from Massena High School, Ava Balster and Chloe Best from Ogdensburg Free Academy; and Fletcher White and Kiara Premo from Potsdam Central School
