OGDENSBURG -- Graveside services for Harold "Pete" L. Johnson, age 89, of Brown Road, will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at Flackville Cemetery in Lisbon. Mr. Johnson passed away peacefully on the morning of June 6, 2025, at Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Pete is survived by his daughter, Ann (Wayne) Denny of Ogdensburg; sons, RJ (Jerry Lee) Johnson of Ogdensburg and Allan (Tammy) Johnson of Lisbon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special niece, Nancy McGraw of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Madge in 2023; his brothers ,Spencer and Ross Johnson; and sisters, Franny Burwell, Cora Warren, and Hanna Winter.
Born on April 7, 1936, in Ogdensburg, Pete was the son of the late Lloyd and Jennie (McEwen) Johnson.
He attended Morristown Central School and married Madge V. Brooks on September 10, 1960, in Brier Hill.
Pete began his working life cutting trees for Bowling Pin Manufacturing and farming alongside his parents.
He purchased the family farm in 1965 and operated it until 1979.
A devoted worker, Pete served as a cemetery caretaker from 1961 to 2017 for various St. Lawrence County Cemeteries and also worked for Mort Backus and Sons as a cleaner from 1971 to 2017.
He was known for his love of John Deere memorabilia, playing the slot machines at the casino, mowing lawns, dining out, and especially spending time with his cherished granddaughter, Sara Denny.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flackville Cemetery Association.
