GOUVERNEUR — A Gouverneur man was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated stemming from a traffic stop Nov. 28, according to state police.
Tyler Bates, 33, was charged with aggravated DWI: Previous conviction and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, officers said.
Troopers observed a 2007 Chevrolet vehicle violate a vehicle and traffic law shortly after midnight and they initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The vehicle reportedly quickly pulled into a driveway, and the driver exited the vehicle immediately.
Police approached the operator and started interviewing him, which led to the operator attempting to flee on foot, but troopers were able to catch and detain him.
Bates was reportedly arrested and taken to the police station where he refused field sobriety tests, but provided a breath sample, resulting in a positive breath test of .17% (blood-alcohol content).
Due to having previous convictions, Bates was allegedly arraigned in Gouverneur court, where he was remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail without bail.
