MORRISTOWN -- Gary Bruce Turner, 78, of Potato Street Rd., passed away, Friday, June 27, 2025 at Wynn Hospital, Utica, NY.
Born April 12, 1947 in Gouverneur, NY, he was a son of Robert Bruce Turner and Mary Lake Turner. He was a 1964 graduate of Morristown Central School and attended Canton ATC.
Gary married Anita S.A. Eggleston March 5, 1966 at the Morristown Methodist Church, with Rev. Bealer Berquist, officiating.
In his early years, he worked in construction, drove tractor trailer, and worked alongside of his, Dad and brother, Richard, doing masonry work.
Gary and Anita have been the owner and operators of Turner Inn Bar and Restaurant, Black Lake since 1971 to present. Gary appreciated and enjoyed the many great friendships he gained throughout the 54 years of operating the Inn.
Gary was a member of the Morristown Board of Assessment Review, and then a member of the Morristown Town Council, since 2012. He was also a member of the Black Lake Fish and Game Club, Black Lake Association, Black Lake Chamber of Commerce and ILA #217A (International Long Shoreman Association).
Gary enjoyed mowing and maintaining his property, making maple syrup, traveling to Florida for a few months each year with his wife, and spending time with family and friends. He was a car enthusiast, avid sports fan, stand out football player in high school and treasured his relationships with high school friends.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anita; a daughter and son-in-law, Andria M. and Ryan D. Strough; a son, Arik G. Turner and longtime partner, Marcie L. LaBrake, all of Morristown, NY; three grandchildren, Jaxen T. LaPiene, Masen G. LaPiene, and Maren J.R. Strough; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Richard W. and Patricia C. Lake, Morristown, NY, and Jeffery L. and Deborah S. Turner, Bonita Springs, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents and a brother, Gregory B. Turner, predeceased him.
A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be 12-5 pm, Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the Turner Inn Bar and Restaurant, 8667 State Highway 58, Black Lake, NY.
