Garry Lee Walton, 80, Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR -- Garry Lee Walton, age 80, passed away on Wednesday June 11, 2025 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 17, 2025 at 12 PM at Frary Funeral Home 33 Park Street, Gouverneur, with Pastor Howard Maxson officiating, calling hours will precede the service from 10AM until Noon, burial will take place at Hailesboro Cemetery.

Garry was born in Gouverneur on April 19, 1945 to the late William Sr. and Velma (Phillips) Walton. He married Sherrill June on January 26, 1968 at The First Methodist Church in Gouverneur with Rev. Stanley E. Brown, pastor officiating. He was employed for many years at St. Joe Minerals in Balmat as and electrical superintendent.

Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Sherrill; a son, Eric Walton; a daughter; Debbie (Jason) Ryan; a granddaughter, Brionna Ball; two grandsons, Arden Ball and Noah Werth; a sister, Kay Walton. He is predeceased by his parents, William Walton Sr. and Velma (Phillips) Walton; his brothers, Wallace, Wayne, Richard, and William Jr.

Garry was a member of the mine rescue team at St. Joe. He was known to be somewhat of a “collector” of all things big and small, he enjoyed collecting knives and tinkering on just about anything. He enjoyed camping and was known to be a dad joke enthusiast.
