Local seniors can stay connected with video calls for free thanks to a new program through the state Office for the Aging.
New York State Office for Aging has partnered with the Community Health Center of the North Country’s Community Friendship Volunteer Program (CFVP) to provide free ONSCREEN devices to local seniors.
The devices can be used to make video calls, and are designed to reduce loneliness and isolation in older adults.
Seniors can also use the devices to complete telehealth appointments with healthcare providers.
ONSCREEN devices turn a television into an easy-to-use communication hub, enabling seamless video calls with loved ones with no technical expertise needed.
The devices can also be used for medication reminders, photo and video messaging, and features a built-in AI companion to answer questions.
Susan Schrader, CFVP Program Director in Franklin County said, “Alleviating isolation for our older residents is mission critical to our CFVP team,” adding that the partnership with ONSCREEN and the Office for the Aging “has allowed us to have even more impact by installing ONSCREEN units with clients who need it most.”
Schrader also noted that participation in the program is completely free of cost.
