POTSDAM – The Potsdam town board has officially appointed former town supervisor Patrick Brady to serve as interim town council member in the wake of former councilmember Christine Paige’s recent resignation.
Brady has a long history of public service in the town and is best known as a local educator and school administrator who has served in several districts over the last few decades.
The newly appointed town councilman officially retired from education in June 2023 from Massena Central, where he had served as superintendent for eight years. He was superintendent at Potsdam Central 10 years before that.
Originally a history teacher, Brady had held several positions at Massena Central, including assistant high school principal, junior high principal and summer school principal between 2000 and 2005. He also taught summer school there from 1998 to 2000.
Brady also served for several years on the Potsdam town board.
“I kind of feel this is full circle,” he said during the recent swearing in ceremony at the June town board meeting. Administering the oath of office was Town Clerk Cindy Goliber who had started her service with the town with Brady in the 1990s.
“It is,” Goliber said. “Pat and I started together back in, oh gosh, the 1990s. He was the supervisor, brand new, and I was town clerk, brand new, and we learned a lot together.”
Brady served as town council member from January 1994 to December 1995, then as supervisor from January 1996-December 2003, then as council member again from January 2004-December 2005.
