LOUISVILLE — A late night structure fire on Saturday, Jan. 18 on State Highway 56 has displaced an undisclosed number of North Country residents and their pets.
According to multiple online reports, calls were received shortly after 10 p.m.. for a structure engulfed in flames.
It is unclear at this time what was the cause of the fire, however reports say everyone who lived at 9775 State Highway 56 were able to escape the fire safely, including all pets.
A post on Facebook by the Salvation Army, Massena, stated that an EDS team was at the scene of the fire after 11 p.m. to offer food, water, coffee and spiritual care.
Fire crews were on scene well after 4 a.m., with most crews back in service by 4:30 a.m., reports state.
Volunteers from American Red Cross say they provided emergency aid to eight people after the blaze. Red Cross officials provided financial assistance which can be used for necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing to eight adults in seven households.
To support those who were affected by the fire, the Rusty Wheel will host a benefit jamboree in the coming days.
According to a Facebook post donations of food, baskets, gift certificates and other goods will be accepted to assist the family.
“We have already received a few donations from local businesses for auction and are greatly appreciative! Stay tuned for the date and time for the event,” the post states.
Donations are also being sought for men’s and women’s clothing, including 5XL shirts, size 13 wide shoes, size 14 wide boots, large and extra large shirts, size 42/30 pants and size nine shoes, according to posts.
Size medium men’s shirts, size 32/30 pants are also being sought, posts state.
Crews, fire engines, tankers and ladder trucks from Louisville, Massena, Bombay, Brasher, Fort Covington, Hogansburg, Norwood, Norfolk and Waddington responded to the call for aid, reports said.
