AKWESASNE - Dustin E. Oakes, 34, a resident of Drum Street Road tragically passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 in Altona, New York.
Dustin was born July 12, 1990 in Malone, the son of Carrie Jacobs and the late Eric Oakes. He attended St. Regis Mohawk School before graduating from Salmon River Central School.
Dustin worked security for many local businesses throughout his short life. Dustin’s greatest joy and love were his children. He loved watching Bluey with his daughters. He enjoyed watching scary movies, especially old-school horror movies.
He also enjoyed bird watching, camping, video gaming, playing paintball, and golfing. Dustin had a great love for music, being with his family and friends, and will be fondly remembered by everyone for always having a smile on his face.
Dustin is survived by his four children who were his pride and joy, Eric, Scarlett, Alaia, and Astra Oakes; his mother, Carrie Jacobs; his twin brother, Carson Oakes; his brother Daniel Mitchell; his chosen brothers Chris Rice, Noah Ross, Corbin Swamp, and Iorahteka Swamp; his maternal grandmother, Darlene Jacobs; his maternal grandfather, Marshall Oakes; his aunts and uncles, Andrew Jacobs, Wanda and Peter Terrance, Wallace Jacobs Jr., Kyle Oakes, Shirley Oakes, Darcie Oakes-Cree, and George Terrance. He is also survived by many great aunts and uncles and cousins.
In addition to his father, Dustin was predeceased by his grandparents, Wallace Jacobs Sr. and Deborah Oakes Conners.
Friends may call at the Akwesasne Homemakers beginning at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 3rd until 9:30 AM Friday, September 5th. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 AM at the St. Regis Mission Catholic Church with Rev. Andrew Amyot celebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions directed to his mother to establish a trust fund for his children.
