MASSENA – A Malone man was jailed on drug and weapon charges Thursday following a traffic stop on Woodlawn Avenue, according to state police.
Troopers said they observed a 2010 tan Toyota traveling on Woodlawn Avenue violate a vehicle and traffic law around 10:30 p.m.
The driver was identified as Rauchell A. LaPorte, 31, Norfolk, the front-seat passenger was identified as Gregory A. Cyranowicz, 44, and the back-seat passenger was identified as Frederick D. Heiserman, 41, Malone, police said.
While interviewing everyone in the vehicle, troopers reportedly observed Heiserman attempting to hide a knife that was in the vehicle. Officers then instructed the individuals out of the vehicle for everyone's safety.
Troopers conducted a safety search of the vehicle and reportedly located narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and a switchblade knife.
Investigation determined the illegal items found in the vehicle belonged to Heiserman, officers said.
Heiserman was charged with five counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
He was reportedly arraigned in Massena court and remanded to St. Lawrence County jail without bail.
LaPorte was issued vehicle and traffic tickets that can be returned to the Town of Massena Court for a later date in November, police said.
