TALCVILLE – Douglas W. Matthews, age 58, of Talcville, passed away on April 12, 2025 at home.
Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
His funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Doug was born on April 8, 1967 in Gouverneur to Sally J. (Allen) Matthews and the late Ralph “Peanut” W. Matthews.
He graduated from Edwards Central School in 1986 and attended Canton ATC.
Doug was a volunteer driver for St. Lawrence County Transportation and loved operating heavy equipment.
Even though he was a paraplegic, nothing stopped him from living life to the fullest. He also coached girls T-Ball and Softball for Edwards Knox Central School.
Doug loved riding his Harley Davidson, working on his vehicles, hunting, fishing (including in the Trout Lake Fishing Derby), and competing in demolition derbies, having won 1st place in Gouverneur and competing in Syracuse.
Above all else, Doug loved having good times with his family and friends and to party.
Doug is survived by his mother, Sally Matthews; sister, Buffy Matthews and her companion, Robert Wilson; his “Brother Bill”; sister-in-law, Kim Matthews; niece Brittany Daniels and her husband, Adam; nephew, Matthew; step-nephew, Mitch; great-nieces and nephews, Isaac and Nolan Hall, Kinsley and Owen Daniels, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is predeceased by his father, Ralph “Peanut” Matthews, and his brother, Jody Matthews.
