OGDENSBURG -- A graveside service for Dorothy B. Smith, age 82, will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Pine Hill Cemetery, Town of Oswegatchie with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Dorothy passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born in Ogdensburg, NY, to Roger and Marion (Moreau) Bayard on August 6, 1942.

She graduated from Morristown Central School and the Ogdensburg Business School.

She worked at Canton ATC, Morristown Central School, Farm Cottage and later Hamilton Hall Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers.

On August 1, 1970, Dorothy married Robert Smith at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg.

They lived on Robert’s dairy farm until he succumbed to farmers’ lung in December 1973. They were happily married and very much in love.

His passing devastated her greatly but being a very strong woman and dedicated hard worker, she held together to raise their only child in a warm loving home.

Being born and raised on a farm and marrying a farmer, her work ethic was phenomenal. Helping on the farm, caring for her child, growing a vegetable garden, flowers, and working full time, kept her extremely busy.

She was always a kind and a nurturing woman and very charitable. She always had a large garden and gave the majority of what she grew to friends, neighbors, and local food pantries.

She was always looking for good sales on baby clothes to give to others she barely knew, and to the Salvation Army.

She loved to read anything, especially romance novels, her passions were being an awesome mom, an avid animal lover, growing flowers and vegetables and helping anyone in need.

Dorothy is survived by her only child, Greg Smith; several nieces and nephews; and her brothers and sisters-in-law.

She was predeceased by her parents, Roger and Marion Bayard; her loving husband, Robert Smith; her brothers, Donald and Claude Bayard; and her sister, Sue Aumell.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to the Morristown Rescue Squad at PO Box 4, Morristown, NY 13664, Ogdensburg Rescue Squad at 1223 Pickering Street, Ogdensburg, NY 13669 or the Salvation Army at 401 Franklin Street, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
