OGDENSBURG — Famous Horwood stained glass windows, an antique slot machine and pottery, and a Hollis decoy collection are among the displays at Ogdensburg History Museum.
The museum also has five hands-on history displays showing canoe and bateaux boat building and operations of sawmills, blacksmiths and gristmills.
Visitors can learn about the illicit gambling history in Ogdensburg, including slot machines which were raided and destroyed by police in 1952. A remaining slot machine not destroyed can be viewed at the museum, along with the article of the famous raid.The museum also organizes special history-related events each year.
The upcoming Ogdensburg Ghost Walk will take visitors through the streets of Ogdensburg to explore the city’s haunted past and notorious crimes on Saturday, October. 25, from 8:30-10 p.m. For reservations, visit the museum’s website.
The museum is is staffed by volunteers who collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret the history of the city. Museum hours are Mondays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m.
The museum is located at 206 Ford St., Ogdensburg, in the Blevins building down the hall from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
