Deceased men suffered gunshot wounds

State Police have confirmed both men found deceased in a Beach Street home  in Massena Monday suffered gunshot wounds.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed today, Dec. 3, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Forensic Pathologist Doctor Scott F. LaPoint to determine the cause and manner of death.

According to State Police, the Massena Police Department responded to 128 Beach St., where officers located two deceased males inside the residence. New York State Police members arrived on the scene to assist the Massena Police Department.

Tax records show the property is owned by Anthony and Sheryl Truax.

State Police did not confirm the names of the deceased. 

State Police representatives did not confirm which agency is the lead agency on the investigation, though other media sources have identified State Police as the lead agency.

Mayor Greg Paquin said there is no threat to the public.

“The New York State Police are conducting an investigation into two suspicious deaths that occurred today within the village limits. There is no threat to the public at this time. Since Massena PD is not leading this investigation, that is all the information we have at this time,” Paquin said.

State Police also confirmed the investigation is ongoing but did not clarify if the case is being treated as a homicide.

The New York State Police, the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office, the Massena Police Department, and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office are working the case, with State Police acting as the lead agency.
