The Department of Environmental Conservation will conduct a late-season pheasant stocking in Region 6, which includes St. Lawrence County, next week.
DEC officials say the additional 540 ring-necked pheasants will be placed on public land at the Upper and Lower Lakes of the WMA in St. Lawrence County, along with the Perch River Wildlife Management Area in Jefferson County and Oriskany Flats WMA in Oneida County.
According to a release, officers will conduct two stockings in December to release the birds, allowing new hunters the opportunity to start hunting while also allowing seasoned hunters to go into fields after deer season has ended.
The first stocking was completed on Dec. 8, with the second expected on Dec. 15 or 16.
