OGDENSBURG -- Graveside services for Deborah Mitchell, 72, of Ogdensburg, will be held at a later date to be announced at Brookside Cemetery in Waddington.
Mrs. Mitchell passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Deborah Mitchell was born on December 23, 1952, in Ogdensburg, to parents John and Ann (Allison) Mitchell.
She graduated from Hammond Central School in the class of 1970 and later earned a degree from Roethel’s Business School.
Deborah dedicated 42 years of her career to the City of Ogdensburg, serving in the City Comptroller’s office until her retirement.
She took great pride in caring for her family and was an active volunteer with the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA, where she previously served as president, secretary, and treasurer.
Her passions included genealogy and history, with a particular interest in the Civil War, World War II, and British history.
An avid traveler, she made multiple trips to England and Scotland on four separate occasions.
She was predeceased by her father, John Mitchell, her brother, Donald Mitchell, and her long-time companion, Alfred “Walt” Reed.
Deborah is survived by her mother, Ann Mitchell, and her brother, David Mitchell. She is also survived by her cousins: Phyllis Brock, Winona Wickman, Jamie Vernon, Russell Vernon, and James Vernon, as well as Walt’s grandchildren, Shelley, Ron, and Cory Mandigo.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Deborah’s memory may be made to the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA, P.O. Box 594, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
