Charles E. Brown, 96, formerly of Waddington

TEXAS -- Charles E. Brown, age 96, formerly of Waddington, passed away on May 16, 2024, in Houston, Texas.

He had been a resident of the Village Green Memory Center in Kingwood.

There will be no calling hours or services for Charles.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington.

A private burial will be held in July at the Port Leyden Cemetery.

Known to his family as Elwyn, and to his peers as “Ike,” he was born in Watertown, NY on January 15, 1928, to Roy Henry and Elizabeth (Rice) Brown.

He graduated from Antwerp High School in 1945, he then enlisted in the U.S. Army.

After being honorably discharged in 1947, Ike attended Tri-State University, now a part of Purdue and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He chose Tri-State because it offered a year around program therefore obtaining his degree in three years.

He started his career as a plant manager for the local paper manufacturing companies and later went to work for companies all around the country as project engineer for 45 years.

In his final years, design work, he was designing and building paper making machines which were environmentally safe.

On October 12, 1951, he married Laura Olin at the Episcopal Church in Antwerp. Ike and Laura raised two girls.

She predeceased him in July of 2015.

Throughout his life he was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved boating and swimming, and his many dogs.

After Charles retired, he enjoyed working on his stone home in Waddington, fishing, and was seen on his daily walks with his beloved pet, Emmylou.

He moved to Texas in November 2017 to live with his daughter, Georgiann.

Ike was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a kind and a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Twyman and her husband, Robert of Queensbury, NY, and Georgiann Brown of Kingwood, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul Twyman and his wife, Jessica Sielawa of Syracuse, NY, and Jessica Willett and her husband, Jamie Willett, and one great-grandchild, Brandon LaChance all of Malone, NY.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy Karl Brown and John William Brown.
