Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) says St. Lawrence County boat launches should be among the state’s top priorities for recreation funding in this year’s budget.
Gray reported that he has been in vocal support of “secure fair investment in state parks, outdoor recreation and essential community programs” at this week’s state budget hearings.
The hearings began Monday with a joint session dealing with the Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Gray emphasized the importance of maintaining and improving boat launches in St. Lawrence County, specifically citing the Brandy Brook boat launch in Waddington, the Chaumont boat launch on Chaumont Bay, and the Black Lake launch in Hammond.
“Many of these facilities are in need of upgrades or full replacements, which is why Assemblyman Gray advocated for them during this week’s budget hearing,” Angela Scipione, Press Secretary for Gray, said.
“These sites are critical to the local economy, supporting tourism, recreation and businesses that rely on access to Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and Black Lake,” she added.
As ranking member on the Assembly Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development, Gray says he has taken a strong stance on ensuring fair distribution of state investments in parks and outdoor recreation.
Gray added, “We pressed Commissioner Simons for clarity on which parks are included and advocated for greater parity in investment” for North Country parks.
The 116th Assembly District has more state parks than any other district in New York, and I’m committed to ensuring we receive adequate funding,” he added.
