CLIFTON – The annual Adirondack White Out Weekend held in Star Lake, Wanakena, Oswegatchie and Cranberry Lake will be Feb. 14-16 with a variety of events scheduled.
The annual winter celebration features natural history, local history, arts/crafts, live music, Contra dancing, open mic, horse drawn wagon rides, storytelling, bird walk and local food.
Admission is free.
The following events are planned:
Friday, Feb. 14
- Ice Jam-Boree 9th Birthday Bash and Open Air Open Mic at Otto's Abode, 6 Hamele St., Wanakena, from 6-9 p.m. Enjoy some entertainment or be the entertainment. Sign up for a time to present your music, poetry, story or snowball juggling routine? Free.
- Campfire & Snow Croquet & Hot Food in the Z-Park @ Otto's Abode starting at dusk. Come warm up by the fire, visit with friends, try a game of snow croquet. Free. Otto's Abode will be open late for your snack and beverage needs with hot vegetable soup & pulled pork for sale.
- Luminary Woods Walk, 2nd Street, Wanakena, from dusk-10 p.m. Walk the wooded trail from 2nd street through the woods to Ranger School Road. The way will be lit with ice luminaries. Free.
- Labyrinth Fairy Village, South Shore Road, Wanakena, dusk-10 p.m. Stroll across the iconic Wanakena Footbridge, then to the labyrinth on South Shore Road. There, meander through the maze while viewing the Fairy Villages sprinkled throughout its walkways. Free.
- Glow Skating at Clifton-Fine Arena, 4173B NYS 3, Star Lake, 6-8 p.m. Bring your own skates. Entry to the arena and glow items are free thanks to sponsorship by Nolan's Tax Service.
Saturday, Feb. 15

Sunday, Feb. 16
- Winter Bird Walk at SUNY ESF Ranger School, 257 Ranger School Road, Wanakena, from 9-11 a.m. SUNY ESF Ranger School and Northern New York Audubon are sponsoring a winter bird walk in the James F. Dubuar Forest as part of the Adirondack White Out Weekend. Vanessa Rojas and Julie Fogden will co-lead the walk. No experience necessary. All are welcome. This walk is geared toward beginners. Bird ID and binocular use tips will be provided. Binoculars are available to use for those who do not have their own. Walkers will meet in the dining room of the main Ranger School building at 9 a.m. for snacks and a brief introduction, then head outside by 9:15 to view bird activity on the Ranger School campus. We will return to the Ranger School by 11 a.m. Parking is available in front of the Ranger School by the river. Limited handicap accessible parking is behind the building. Dress for the weather.
