MASSENA -- Alkies Tap Room and Bottle Shop is on the move.
The beer store and restaurant will be moving to 200 North Main Street this, which is currently occupied by Stewart's Shops, as part of an expansion.
Stewart's previously received approval from the Village Planning Board to open a new location to be built at the corner of North Main and Maple Streets.
That location, formerly home to On a Roll Deli, was purchased last fall.
Stewart's Shops received approval from the Village of Massena Planning Board, which included four binding conditions as required by the County Planning Board.
Among them will be a Knox Box, access points that are permitted through state Department of Transportation processes, snow removal plans and variances for a canopy and free-standing signage.
The planned 4,500 square foot store will have six gas pumps on 0.81 acres and will operate from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
That plan led to the North Main Street location potentially being left empty, something Stewart's officials were not keen on.
Stewart's spokesman Robin Cooper previously said the company would like to re-lease the location or put the building on the market if that option fails.
“We would certainly keep it up. We don’t have properties that are run down and disheveled,” he said.
Enter Vicki Burnett and Marie Barkley, who are purchasing the property for Alkies Tap Room.
"Marie & I would like to announce the purchase of 200 N Main (Stewarts) we will be moving the taproom this fall, many questions have arisen due to the building we are in being out up for sale. So to be clear we are not closing, we are expanding to give all our patrons a bigger better experience!" they wrote on Facebook.
