PHOTO - Akesasne hometown hero
AKWESASNE - The Akwesasne community will celebrate one of its brightest stars, Carey Terrance Jr., during a special Hometown Hero Award presentation at the Home Opener of the Akwesasne Junior B Thunder Lacrosse Club. The ceremony will take place Tuesday, May 7, at the Anowarakowa Arena on Cornwall Island, First Intermission of the Junior B Thunder’s matchup against the Nepean Knights.
Terrance, an Akwesasne native, is a three-time USA Hockey Juniors Gold Medalist and recently signed a three-year NHL contract with the Anaheim Ducks.
The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Chiefs, will present the award and unveil plans for a permanent plaque at the entrance to the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation to honor Terrance’s remarkable achievements and lifelong connection to his home.
“We are proud to honor Carey not just for his accomplishments on the ice, but for representing Akwesasne with integrity, humility, and excellence,” said the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council. “He has become a role model for our youth and a symbol of what is possible.”
Adding to the celebration, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Grand Chief Leonard Lazore will take part in the ceremony representing our Northern portion of Akwesasne. The evening will also include a book signing of Ionkwawen:nion – "We Accomplished It", a powerful publication highlighting stories of Akwesasnoron achievements across generations. The book serves as a tribute to the trailblazers of Akwesasne, and Carey Terrance Jr. is now proudly among them.
“This is a moment of immense pride for our community,” said Grand Chief Leonard Lazore “Carey embodies the strength, talent, and determination of our people. His success reminds us that with dedication and heart, our youth can achieve greatness on any stage.”
All are invited to attend this historic event and take part in honoring a young man whose journey from the rinks of Akwesasne to the arenas of the NHL continues to inspire.
