Shannon James Streeter, 41, of Gouverneur

Shannon James Streeter, age 41, of Gouverneur, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the E.J. Noble Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Monday, March 21 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. His funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Wilfred Baez of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating.

Shannon was born on July 18, 1969 in Gouverneur. He is the son of James M. and Terry L. (Mullin) Streeter. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1987 and then went on to graduate from St. Lawrence University in 1991 receiving his BA in Political Science and Government History. A marriage to Lori Palmatier-Strate ended in divorce.

Shannon worked at Corning as a glass finisher for three years. He had previously worked at the Gouverneur Prison as a librarian and for Dede Scozzafava’s office in Gouverneur as an assembly aid. Shannon interned in Bob Nortz’s office for 6 months, was a Gouverneur Village Trustee for one term and had worked construction for various companies. Shannon and Foster Shampine were partners in the ownership of Frosty’s Wings and Things in Edwards for several years. Shannon had also worked for the Roma Restaurant for many years until it closed. He was proud of the fact that he had made over 10,000 pizzas in his career. He was also a member of the Gouverneur VFW auxiliary. Shannon loved life and was very active in politics. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting guns, riding his four- wheeler, watching football and was an Oakland Raider fan.

Shannon is survived by his parents, James M. and Terry L. Streeter; a sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and Sidney Peters; and his paternal grandmother, Jean (McCartha-Streeter) Martin, all of Gouverneur. He is also survived by his three Godchildren, Taylor and Sydney Gale and William Moore; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends.

He is predeceased by his grandparents, Carl and Margaret (Peg) Mullin and Earl Streeter; his aunt, Carla Mullin-Keter and his cousin Michael Mullin.
