Louisville: Paul J. Tyo, 88, passed away on late Tuesday evening (October 2, 2018) at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, NY with his loving family by his side. Calling hours for Paul will be held Sunday afternoon (October 7, 2018) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday morning (October 8, 2018) 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church, Louisville with Rev. Tojo Chacko presiding. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
Paul was born in Brasher Falls on August 15, 1930, son of the late John and Lillian (Sutton) Tyo. He learned his work ethic at an early age, working on his parent’s farm.
His daily chores on the farm included milking and feeding cows, planting, and working in the hayfields. Paul later moved to Louisville and continued to work on the family farm.
On August 26, 1950, he married Elizabeth F. Stokes at the Louisville Rectory. They had five children Paula, Linda, Kevin, Judy, and Tim. Paul began employment at the Alcoa Aluminum Plant in 1952 as a wire/roll operator. While working at Alcoa, Paul also co-owned and operated The Elm’s Restaurant in Louisville with his brother Ken.
In 1969, Paul purchased the Louisville Store and ran the business with his wife Betty along with their five children.
When he was not working two jobs, Paul enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, racing with the Louisville Fire Department Firematic Drill Team, and helping his children build their homes and hunting cabins.
Paul was a Chartered member of the Louisville Volunteer Fire Department, A member of Township 19 Hunting Club, and a member of the Massena Elks Lodge # 1702.
He is survived by his loving wife Betty, daughters Paula (Bob) LaPierre of Saranac Lake, NY, Linda (Glenn) Cone of Rochester, NY, Judy Francis of Ogdensburg, NY, a son Timothy (Lisa) Tyo of Louisville, NY and daughter in-law Terri Tyo of Louisville, NY. He is also survived by one brother Gerald Tyo also of Louisville, NY and one sister Catherine “Kitty” LeBoeuf of Massena, NY
Other surviving family members include his 8 grandchildren Michelle Trimboli, Christopher LaPierre, Jake Tyo, Sarah Tyo, Nathan Francis, Jason Francis, Dylan Tyo, Eric Tyo, and four great-grandchildren Matthew, Grayce, Marlana and Connor Trimboli.
He was predeceased by his brothers Keith, Donald, Robert, Ken, and Bernard Tyo, a sister, Ann Marie Tyo, a son Kevin Tyo, and grandchildren Scott and Kari Tyo.
