CANTON -- Funeral service for Margaret E. McGregor-Hewey, 89, will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton.
Burial in Stone Church Cemetery will be held in the spring.
Margaret died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus while surrounded by her family.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Margaret was born, March 9, 1927 in Gouverneur, the daughter of the late, Herbert and Alice (Hicks) Scott.
She graduated from Hammond Central School in 1944.
June of 1945, Margaret married Robert V. McGregor, who predeceased her on June 1, 1964.
She later married Donald F. Hewey in January of 1967. Mr. Hewey predeceased her on June 30, 1984.
Margaret worked for St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services, retiring in 1984.
She enjoyed spending time with family, baking, dancing and crafts.
Margaret was a member of the Potsdam American Legion Post 74 and a communicant of the Galilee United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Lynn (Viola) McGregor of Potsdam and Matt McGregor of Canton; a daughter, Marnie Dancause of Heuvelton; six grandchildren, Renee (Tom) Nichols of Ogdensburg, Raymond (Tammie) Dancause of North Carolina, Brandon (Rebecca) McGregor of New Jersey, Corey McGregor and girlfriend, Alyssa Moore of Potsdam, Scott McGregor and Shawn McGregor, both of Canton; a brother-in-law, Charles Reynolds; and five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Margaret was predeceased by a sister, Bethany Reynolds; and by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and James Hull.
