Elaine E. Wainwright, age 66, formerly of Gouverneur, entered into eternal rest on March 1, 2011 after a 7-month battle with lung cancer, at Pomona Valley Hospital, Pomona, CA.

Elaine was born in Theresa, April 10, 1944 to Allen and Mary Dawley of Hammond. She graduated from Hammond Central and attended Ogdensburg Business School. She married Wendell D. Wainwright on July 28, 1962, and they resided in Gouverneur until 2001, when they moved to Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Elaine was a legal secretary for 30 years at the office of Nelson, Nelson, and O’Donnell, as well as at the office of Sandy Heller. She was well known for her beautiful flower gardens at 15 E. Babcock St., Gouverneur. After moving to southern California, to be nearer to her children and grandchildren, Elaine became a member of the Master Gardner’s of Southern California and volunteered at many gardens throughout the area. She was also a docent at the Sam Maloof Museum and Gardens.

Elaine is survived by her husband, of 48 years, Wendell; her daughter, Paula and John Torres Jr. of Rancho Cucamonga, California, with their children Kirsten Easton, Anthony Easton, John Torres III, and Brittany Torres; and also her son, David Wainwright, of Keller, Texas, with his children, Andrew and Mia Wainwright.

Services will be announced and held sometime in June at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in honor of Elaine, to Inland Empire Master Gardener Club, 2660 Macy St., Muscoy, California, 92407.
