PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – Mrs. Betty J. Wilkins, 77, Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Massena passed away early Monday morning, November 10, 2014 at Port Charlotte Hospice House.
Betty was born October 6, 1937 in Massena, the daughter of the late Delbert and Blanche E. Somers Yateman and attended schools in Massena. On December 8, 1956, she married William “Wally” Wilkins at the First United Methodist Church in Massena.
Betty was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother who worked for a short time as a sales clerk at Grant’s and J.J. Newberry’s. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and doing crafts.
She especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and had a special love for her grand dogs.
Betty is survived by her husband, William “Wally” Wilkins of 58 years; four children, Ricky Wilkins of Massena, William “Billy” Wilkins and his wife, Karen, Tim “Twinky” Wilkins of Massena, and Lori Salazar of Ogdensburg; five grandchildren, Erika O’Geen, Katey Wilkins, Corey Wilkins, Jordan Wilkins, and Cole Salazar; her great granddaughter, Rowan Wilkins; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Marlene Yateman of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis White on June 26, 2006 and her brother, Robert William Yateman in infancy.
Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Heather Steirhiem, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2, Massena.
