BRASHER FALLS – History was made Jan. 23 when senior Maggi Yandoh sank a free throw against Norwood-Norfolk Central School. She became the second female in St. Lawrence Central School history to score 1,000 points in her varsity basketball career.

Coming into the game, Yandoh only needed 8 points to hit 1,000. She netted 23 in her team’s win over NNCS, scoring more than the Flyers entire team. SLC won the game 57-21.

“It was crazy,” she said of the feeling when she hit the 1,000-point mark.

Yandoh got off to a hot start and reached the milestone early in the game.

Once the ball went through the rim on her foul shot, “the stress was gone,” she said.

Prior to her two free throws, a teammate made sure Yandoh knew the importance of the moment. Shew said her teammate reminded her that if she sank both shots she would reach 1,000 points. “How’s the for pressure?”

Following the game, Yandoh was given a basketball to commemorate the honor. Her teammates and coaches all signed the ball.

Yandoh, a 5’5” guard, is now chasing Kate Sullivan to be the girls’ all-time leading scorer. She has about 5 games to pass her.

Her highest scoring game of her high school career saw her drop 29 points as a junior.

She started playing hoops in kindergarten and credits her success to time spent with her father, coaches and family playing basketball in the driveway of her home.

Yandoh’s offensive game is varied. “I live to drive to the basket and shoot threes,” she said.

She moved up to varsity during the playoffs as an eighth grade student. She has been making buckets at a rapid pace since.

The 17-year old star expects to continue her athletic career at SUNY Plattsburgh of Alfred University. She plans to major in athletic training. She also plays HS softball

She is the daughter of Steve and Beth Yandoh, and has an older sibling, Hannah.
