WINTHROP -- The Women's 9th Charitable Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Meadow Brook Golf Course in Winthrop. Seven teams consisting of 31 women participated in the best-ball contest.

Each year a female in need is selected and this year’s recipient was 14 year old Rachel Bartlett. Rachel had many health issues and spent last year in Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Ohio where she received treatment for liver failure. During the first week, Rachel received her new liver. Rachel was also diagnosed with Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID), along with Type 1 Diabetes.

Rachel’s mother remained by her side in Cincinnati during her treatment while her father remained in Potsdam maintaining employment and caring for Rachel’s two siblings.

The family incurred a staggering amount of expenses for travel, lodging, as well as, medical expenses. Unfortunately, August 17, 2019 Rachel succumbed to her illnesses and passed away. The Women's Golf Tournament Committee said it was their honor to present the Bartlett family a check for $1,519 to offset some of their expenses.

Many donations were collected and the committee thanks the following for their contributions: Meadow Brook Golf Course, Deer Valley Trails, NuMed, Riverview Bar and Restaurant, Elliot's Farm & Garden, Spirits of Downtown, Tri-Town Packing, Baby Tee's Pizzeria, LaVigne's IGA, Lamphere's Market, Pit Stop Bar, Potsdam Animal Shelter, Today's Hair Salon & Day Spa, B&B Maple Farm, T&R Wines and Liquor, The Lobster House, ½ Tons Sports Bar & Grill, The Country Corner Market, The Jug, Goshen Acres Homestead, Anastasia's Bakery, Alkies Wine & Liquor, an anonymous monetary donor, and all the women who participated in the tournament.
