Variety of summer camps offered in Canton, Potsdam area

POTSDAM -- There are several summer camps and programs in the Canton and Potsdam region available to the region's youngsters this year.

Village of Potsdam Recreation programs include: open beaches from June 9-Aug. 26, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; swim lessons at Postwood from 10-11 a.m., pre-registration will be Wednesday, June 20, 5-7:30 p.m.; playground program, June 25-Aug. 3; family fun night, Aug. 1, from 6-7:30 p.m.; Swim For Hospice event Aug. 4 at 8 a.m.; six-week theme programs, including Olympic "Try-alls," Imagination Station, Water Works, Safety Week, Heroes Week and Building Blocks, contact Potsdam Parks and Recreation at 315-265-4030 for more information and to register.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of St Lawrence County is staging farm day camps at the Extension Learning Farm, 2043B State Highway 68, Canton. Creative Arts Camps are offered at SUNY Potsdam's CLEAR (Center for Lifelong Education and Recreation). The North Country Children’s Museum will soon be offering hands-on camps for children 7-12 years old at its new location at 10 Raymond St., Potsdam.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Camp will offer hands-on activities and experimentation. Campers will work together with counselors to develop and test hypotheses in a variety of topics, including: robotics, physics, circuitry, energy, scientific methodology, coding and more. Dates for STEAM Camp are July 16-30 and July 30-Aug. 3.

Also offered by the Children's museum, ECOLAB is a week-long exploration of the webs of life that exist in nature. Through hands-on studies, campers will learn to recognize integral connections between all things and their own place in that system. Areas of focus will include: stream studies, macroinvertebrates, sustainability, renewable resources, astronomy and more. Dates for ECOLAB Camp are July 23-27 and Aug. 6-10.

The camps cost $225 to attend with a 10 percent discount offered to museum members.
