High pressure will build into the region today with dry and unseasonably cold weather expected for St. Lawrence County, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The high today will likely not reach 20 but skies will be sunny, the service says. An overnight low of 11 is likely.
Temperatures gradually moderate on Thursday into Friday before another strong cold
front crosses the area Friday evening with scattered rain and snow showers.
Behind this front a brief return of cold weather returns for Saturday, after which temperatures moderate considerably into next week.
The forecast through next Tuesday is as follows:
Thursday
A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
Thursday Night
Snow showers likely, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. South wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Friday
A chance of snow showers before 11am, then rain and snow showers likely between 11am and 2pm, then snow showers likely after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 8. Northwest wind 5 to 14 mph.
