OGDENSBURG -- Officers seized synthetic marijuana, commonly known as K2, in two packages mailed to inmates at the medium security Riverview Correctional Facility last week, said a press release from NYSCOPBA.
NYSCOPBA is the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, Inc., the union which represents the correctional officers at Riverview.
On Tuesday, May 5, an officer was processing two packages that came in for an inmate, the press release said. One of the packages, which were mailed from Buffalo, had fruit snacks in it. The officer noticed the fruit snacks had been tampered with.
Upon closer inspection, he discovered synthetic marijuana hidden in 20 packages.
The following day a package mailed to an inmate was inspected by an officer in the package room. The officer discovered that packages of fruit snacks had been tampered with.
The officer discovered 105 blue balloons inside of the fruit snack packages. Over two ounces of synthetic marijuana was hidden inside the balloons.
The drugs were mailed from Rochester.
All of the drugs were seized as evidence, the press release said.
