CANTON -- The Town of Canton is reopening the Little River Boat Launch on Park Street and Route 27 and the Pyrites Boat Launch on County Route 47.

A press release from the town said the reopenings were pursuant to the amended Empire State Development listing of non-essential businesses outlining the Governor’s Executive Order 202.6.

"I strongly advise all citizens to continue to protect themselves and others by following the COVID-19 safety guidelines," said Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley. "Staying at home unless travel is absolutely necessary, use social distancing, wear a mask, wash your hands and do not be part of groups. Citizens are also reminded of the county travel advisory issued by Sheriff Bigwarfe."

"This has been an extremely challenging time and I fully understand the mental and physical health benefits of recreational activities. We want everyone to be safe and healthy. However, there is also an increase in cases in Canton and we must be diligent in not spreading the Coronavirus," Ashley said. "As reported in North Country Now, County Health Board President Dr. Andrew Williams believes the peak of local COVID-19 infection has yet to arrive. He also believes that social distancing is helping to avoid a 'disastrous' hit on the county’s hospitals."
