CANTON -- The Canton Town Council approved a town-wide hiring freeze and extended the Town of Canton State of Emergency declaration and spending freeze.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley declared a 30-day State of Emergency in the town on March 18, along with adjusting town employee work hours and office operations, and froze most department spending.
The resolution passed by the board at their Zoom meeting April 8, will extend the State of Emergency and spending freeze for 30 more days.
There are currently no vacant positions in the town, so the hiring freeze will not affect town operations and services.
