POTSDAM -- Over the past 31 years, the Orchestra of Northern New York, the North Country’s only year-round professional symphony orchestra, has amassed a collection of more than 750 musical works.

Now, thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Sweetgrass Foundation based in Canton, the Orchestra will have an organized, up-to-date music library, said an ONNY press release.

New acid-free music folders will be used to protect the original pieces. The whole collection will be organized on new movable shelving. The grant provides funding for staff to be paid at a very reasonable rate to complete this renovation project.

“We are deeply grateful to the Sweetgrass Foundation for their generous gift to enhance the ONNY library. The protection and organization of the music the library holds are important matters and will ensure the long-term safety of the investment in purchases over the past years and in the future,” said Kenneth Andrews, music director, conductor and founder of ONNY.

The tasks associated with this project will be completed by ONNY Orchestra Librarian, Keith Ziemba.

Ziemba is a retired music teacher from Northern New York who resides in Russell with his wife, Nancy, an ONNY musician.
