Mainly clear skies early this morning will give way to increasing clouds through the day today, but the National Weather Service says the North Country will see one more dry day today before the clouds spread showers over the region starting tonight, Saturday and Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Dorian will track northeastward off the New England Coast tonight through Saturday, and will bring higher winds to Vermont, but the NWS says it will have little effect on winds here.
Highs today could be a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday’s with readings in the upper 60s to mid 70s expected, but the trend, forecasters say, is for below normal temperatures Sunday through early next week with highs in the mid to upper 60s and lows in the 40s to low 50s.
The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:
• Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph.
• Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly between 7pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. Northeast wind around 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Saturday: Showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Saturday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. West wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 62. West wind around 8 mph.
• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
• Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.
• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Light and variable wind.
• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. East wind 3 to 5 mph.
• Tuesday Night: Showers likely after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. Southeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
• Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. South wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
• Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. North wind 5 to 7 mph.
• Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 67. North wind 6 to 9 mph.
