CANTON -- The state will spend $2.2 million on renewal of State Rt. 68 from the village of Canton to the hamlet of Pierrepont.
A total of $151 million in new spending was announced for all of New York's counties, to improve roads impacted "by extreme weather events," the announcement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said.
The $2.2 million is St. Lawrence County's share.
The funding is being provided through the PAVE NY program, which has been an annual allotment of funds in direct state aid provided for local road and bridge projects.
How this funding for State Rt. 68 will impact the funding for local roads in St. Lawrence County was not revealed, nor was any effect on the state's Extreme Winter Recovery funding, specifically allocated to municipalities to repair winter road damage.
The work under the PAVE NY funding in this announcement will begin in the spring.
