FORT COVINGTON — State police reportedly attempted to shoot a vehicle’s tire following a police chase Sunday night on State Highway 37.
Malone-based state police attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding around 8 p.m. Jan. 19 and the driver failed to comply and a short pursuit ensued, officers said.
The driver stopped the vehicle on Frye Road, and a male passenger ran from the vehicle, police said.
The driver reportedly drove from the scene again and a trooper shot into the left rear tire in an attempt disable the car.
The second pursuit lasted for approximately four miles before the driver was taken into custody, officers said. During this time a search for the male passenger was conducted by troopers, the state police canine unit and Border Patrol.
The male passenger was located and when taken into custody, suffered minor injuries, officers said. It is also determined the passenger sustained a mild heart attack when running from the scene on Frye Road. The subject was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
A trooper on scene also suffered minor injuries when taking the subject into custody, officers said.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
