CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County sheriff’s office is warning residents of a scam coming from a group claiming to be the “Senior Citizens League.”
Deputies say the group issued mailings asking for money to help the increase Social Security benefits for seniors.
The mailing had a return address in Washington DC and looked legitimate, deputies say.
After investigating the ‘Senior Citizens League’ online deputies determined it was fraudulent specifically targeting the elderly community.
The St. Lawrence Office would like to make the public aware of scams like this that target our elderly community.
Anyone with questions regarding the scam should contact the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department at 315-379-2222.
