St. Lawrence County school yearbooks are now available for free online viewing

Over 1,000 yearbooks from 14 St. Lawrence County schools have been scanned and are now available or will soon be available for free online viewing.

The process that has been ongoing for more than five years. Schools included so far are Massena, Ogdensburg, Gouverneur, Parishville-Hopkinton, Norwood-Norfolk, Madrid-Waddington, Clifton-Fine, Edwards-Knox, Hammond and Morristown. Canton, Madrid, Potsdam, Colton and St. Lawrence Central were the first additions in 2011.

Northern New York Library Network assisted with scanning and helped put the scanned yearbooks online at http://nyheritage.nnyln.net/cdm/landingpage/collection/sllboces.

Yearbook collections that are available online are also searchable through the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) at http://dp.la. In addition to the public high schools, yearbooks from the former Catholic high schools, St. Mary’s Academy in Ogdensburg and Holy Family High School in Massena, will also be added to the website.

With the assistance of school librarians, public librarians, and local historians, the St. Lawrence Lewis School Library System has been able to locate nearly all of the yearbooks post-centralization.

However, many of the yearbooks prior to the 1950s are still missing. The public is asked to contact the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES if they have yearbooks that are missing from the online collection. The scanning process does not damage the yearbooks and they will be returned to their owners within weeks.

In order to see what yearbooks still needed to complete the project, visit www.sllboces.org/Page/2900 or contact Natalie Panshin at npanshin@sllboces.org or 386-4504 x10201.
