St. Lawrence County People Project convening group of ‘North Country Ambassadors’

POTSDAM -- What started out as an initiative supported by New York State United Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers, the St. Lawrence County People Project is now assuming their formal identity as a 501(c)3 organization. The People Project promotes collaboration of community partners to strengthen, enhance, and sustain St. Lawrence County.

For the past year, the People Project Steering Committee has worked to refresh the organization’s strategic goals. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the People Project is working with stakeholders to explore additional ways the organization can support the community.

“If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it is the power of human connection and ensuring that we take care of each other” said Nicole Conant, Steering Committee Member and Chief of Staff at SUNY Potsdam.

"The People Project has engaged in initiatives such as distributing new winter coats to kids, supporting community-based education programs in local districts, distributing books and school supplies to school children, distributing face masks and hand sanitizer, and other initiatives that put other people at the center of our work.”

The People Project is also convening “North Country Ambassadors” which is a group of individuals committed to facilitating an atmosphere of community pride and inclusivity, capitalizing on the characteristics that make the North Country unique to attract and retain people.

The group plans to reconvene partners later this year to unveil the strategic plan that will guide the group’s work for the next three years.
