CANTON -- In keeping with advice of public health officials, St. Lawrence County legislators at their Monday, March 16 Services Committee meeting practiced social distancing.
Legislators are typically seated at pairs of desks, with 14 on the floor and the chairperson at the helm. The 14 representatives’ desks were pulled at least six feet apart, which County Administrator Ruth Doyle said was “to respect the guidance we're receiving from public health during this time of potential illness.”
Members of the public and department heads, who typically sit on the periphery, were also seated a minimum of six feet apart.
A male reporter entered at the start of the meeting and pulled a chair to sit next to a reporter for North Country This Week/North Country Now. Doyle promptly told the man to move his chair at least six feet away from other spectators.
The meeting included a discussion where legislators and public health officials revealed the staggering potential impact of coronavirus, and the COVID-19 respiratory disease it causes, in St. Lawrence County.
