CANTON -- Military veterans who were injured in a combat zone who now work for the county will be given three extra days off per year for healthcare services related to the injury.
The St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators passed that motion at their Monday, Oct. 7 meeting.
Legislator James Reagan, R-Ogdensburg, sponsored the bill and said they will have to show proof they were injured on military duty in a combat zone in order to qualify.
"It’s something we as a society owe to those we send into harm's way,” Reagan said.
All of the other 12 legislators present seconded Reagan’s motion and voted for it. Legislators Nicole Terminelli, D-Massena, and Henry Leader, R-Gouverneur, were excused from the meeting.
"I enthusiastically support it," said Legislator David Haggard, D-Potsdam. “I agree with Mr. Reagan. This is the very least we can do for our veterans."
