Snow showers in St. Lawrence County could produce white-out conditions for evening commute

Convective snow showers and snow squalls look likely to impact Northern New York this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

These snow squalls may impact the evening commute and could produce brief white-out conditions due to heavy snow and gusty winds up to 30 miles per hour, forecasters say. Motorists should be prepared for rapidly deteriorating conditions during the afternoon commute.

Record breaking cold is expected tonight following the passage of a strong arctic cold front, NWS says. Most locations will drop into the single digits with locations across the Northeast Kingdom and northern Adirondacks dropping below zero.

The forecast through Thursday is as follows:

Sunny, with a high near 20. Wind chill values as low as -1. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Mostly clear, with a low around 4. Wind chill values as low as -3. Light east wind.

Sunday

Sunny, with a high near 31. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

Sunday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. East wind 3 to 6 mph.

Monday

Partly sunny, with a high near 33. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

A chance of freezing rain and sleet before 3am, then a chance of snow and sleet between 3am and 4am, then a chance of snow after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
