Sisters named valedictorian, salutatorian at Colton-Pierrepont Central

COLTON -- Colton-Pierrepont Central School has named its top academic achievers for 2018-19. The valedictorian of the Class of 2019 is Madeline Rousell. She is the daughter of Heather and Jeff Rousell of Colton.

Rousell has been an active student and community member during her time at Colton-Pierrepont. She has been involved with Speaking Team, Whiz Quiz, Foreign Language Club, Environmental Club, All-County Chorus, and president of Tri-M Music Honor Society and National Honor Society.

Rousell has proven herself to be an exceptional student, while completing AP course work in US history, biology, English and calculus, as well as college-level coursework in English, physics, statistics and sociology.

She is a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and earned a perfect score on Le Grand Concours French exam. Madeline plays piano, varsity basketball and softball, as well as being a senior ballet dancer at Step it Out Dance Studio.

Rousell will graduate with an advanced regents diploma with honors, and mastery in math and science. She plans to attend Brandeis University and pursue a degree in sociology. She has a strong interest in social justice and hopes to pursue this passion moving forward.

Salutatorian for the Class of 2019 is Grace Rousell. She is also the daughter of Heather and Jeff Rousell of Colton. Rousell has been very active during her high school career, serving four years in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, as a member of Whiz Quiz, National Honor Society, Environmental Club, Secretary of Tri-M Music Honor Society, and class president. Grace also plays guitar and has worked as a lifeguard for the past two summers.

Rousell very successfully completed AP courses in US history, biology, English, and calculus, and college-level coursework in English, physics and statistics. Rousell has especially enjoyed creating art and videos while a student at Colton-Pierrepont. She currently has artwork in the St. Lawrence County High School Invitational Art Show at SUNY Potsdam, for the second time. She enjoys capturing photographs and creating videos that persuade others and tell a story.

Rousell will graduate with an advanced regents diploma with honors, and mastery in math and science. She plans to attend Vassar College in the fall to pursue a career in filmmaking.

Colton-Pierrepont seniors who will also graduate with a 90 or higher cumulative average: Schuyler Chamberlain, Michael Corbitt, Taylor LaValley, Kaitlynn Long, Benjamin McKinley, Catherine Monaghan, Cole Richards, Claire Rousell and Madeline Smith.

Colton-Pierrepont High School Graduation will take place in the school auditorium on Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m.
